Track Your Hours Like a Pro

Log hours the same day
Memory fades fast. Filling in your timesheet at the end of the day is significantly more accurate than trying to reconstruct a week from memory on Friday afternoon. Make it a 2-minute end-of-day habit.
Keep your own records always
Even if your employer tracks your hours, maintain your own independent record. Payroll disputes, overtime claims and contract reviews are all much easier to resolve when you have documented evidence rather than relying on the employer's system alone.
Know your overtime entitlements
In most Canadian provinces, overtime kicks in at 40-44 hours per week (varies by province). Some sectors have different thresholds. Check your Employment Standards Act for your province — overtime pay is a legal right, not a bonus. This tool flags overtime based on your configured threshold.
Track breaks accurately
Unpaid break time (typically 30 minutes for an 8-hour shift in most provinces) should be deducted from your paid hours. The break field in this tracker lets you log break time precisely so your total hours are accurate for payroll purposes.
Review weekly, not just monthly
Catching a timesheet error or overtime breach after a month of accumulated weeks is much harder to resolve than catching it in the same week. Review your weekly hours every Friday before submitting — or before the weekend if you work non-standard weeks.
Save copies before closing
This tool runs in your browser only and does not save your data between sessions. Print or copy your timesheet before closing the tab. For multi-week tracking, use the Add Another Week feature and print the full timesheet at the end of your pay period.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — this tool runs entirely in your browser and does not save data between sessions. Your entries will be lost if you close or refresh the tab. Print or copy your timesheet before closing. If you need multi-week tracking, use the Add Another Week button and print the complete timesheet at the end of your pay period.

In most Canadian provinces, overtime begins after 40-44 hours in a single work week (it varies by province — Ontario, BC and Alberta all have slightly different thresholds). Some collective agreements and employment contracts have different terms. This tool defaults to 40 hours but you can change the threshold. Always check your specific Employment Standards Act and contract.

Most Canadian provinces require a premium of at least 1.5x (time and a half) for overtime hours. This tool lets you configure the multiplier — 1.5x (most common), 2.0x (double time, common in some sectors), 1.25x or 1.0x (no premium). The earnings estimate uses regular rate for standard hours and the multiplier rate for overtime hours.

This tool is designed for individual use — one person tracking their own hours. For team timesheets, you could run the tool separately for each team member and print individual sheets. For multi-employee payroll tracking, you would need a dedicated payroll or HR software system.

Your independently maintained timesheet is strong supporting evidence, especially if you log entries daily. Also check: email timestamps showing your work hours, keycard or access logs, digital tool usage logs (Slack activity, code commits, file edit timestamps). If you believe your employer is systematically under-recording your hours, contact the provincial Employment Standards Branch.

For split shifts (two separate periods of work in one day), log the total paid hours manually in the Total Hours column and use the Notes field to describe the split (e.g. "9am-1pm + 5pm-9pm"). For irregular breaks, use the Break (min) field to enter the exact unpaid break time and the tool will deduct it from your total automatically.
